OUR SPECIAL CATHOLIC CHARACTER

This weekend marks two significant feast days for our Catholic community.  Annually on 31st May, the feast of the Visitation is celebrated.  This year, on the same date we will also celebrate the solemnity of Pentecost.

The gospel stories connected to these important feast days are a ‘must know’ for all Catholics.

The words of the ‘Hail Mary’ are found in  Luke’s gospel (1:39–56) which tells the story of the Visitation. We learn that Mary visits her cousin Elizabeth who is also with child (John the Baptist).

Pentecost Sunday marks the end of the Easter season and is celebrated 50 days after Christ’s glorious  resurrection.  Also known as the Feast of the Holy Spirit, Pentecost Sunday commemorates the descent of the Holy Spirit upon the disciples of Jesus Christ.

REQUEST FROM THE MOE

Request from the MOE to collect weekly attendance data from all schools across NZ

The Ministry of Education and the National Crisis Monitoring Centre are reporting on levels of attendance during the COVID -19 period and have requested weekly attendance data from all schools across NZ.  Data will be used to:

  •  find out which groups of students and schools have been most affected by the lockdown so support can be targeted.
  • inform and support Ministry planning for students and schools returning to normal operation, and
  • evaluate and report on the effectiveness of initiatives implemented by the Ministry to respond and manage its response to COVID-19

Our school will be sending weekly student attendance data to the Ministry from 29th May.

SCHOOL REPORTS & SPORTS

  • Due to Covid-19 ‘lockdown’ there is no written report this term. An abbreviated version of our mid-year report will be available during School/Whānau Conferences in the second week of Term 3.
  • This term’s HPPA sports and cultural fixtures have been cancelled due to Level 2 restrictions.

COVID-19 LEVEL 2 UPDATE

The nation will remain in Level 2 until a further ministerial announcement is made in June. We will be maintaining our Level 2 health and safety site plan in relation to pick-up/drop-off; staggered break times; sanitising/hygiene practices; restricted site access. If you need to enter the school building, please remember to sign in at the front office.

OUR VALUE FOCUS – RESPECT

Learners at St Mark’s are reminded to follow in the footsteps of Jesus. To encourage learners to do this, we reference the ABCs and 3Rs.

ABCs: A – Attitude; B – Behaviour; C – Care

3Rs: Respect for self; Respects for Others; Respect for the Environment

Our PB4L focus this week is:  Respect for others, waiting my turn, listen to others in the classroom and playground, wait to speak (everywhere and always)

WELCOME TO OUR NEWEST LEARNERS

An especially warm St Mark’s welcome to Theodore, Lewis and Olive (Charlie C’s sister) to ‘BIG’ school. Our newest 5 year olds have joined Mrs Ross’ class in Room 4.
