Art and Culture

Art and culture is alive and well at St Mark's with children participating in a wide range of events.

Our choir has performed at the both the local music festival and

at the Aotea Centre. They gave very polished performances which

were enjoyed by all who attended.

We were thrilled when our Marimba Group were asked to

appeared on ‘The Breakfast Show’ at TVNZ.  Our students

were delighted to teach Tamati Coffey (the weather man

and ex What Now presenter) to play.  Another highlight was

to perform at East Auckland has Talent an original piece of music,

titled ‘The Peace March’ (written by Mrs Zeeman and the

students). They also performed this at the Marimba Festival.

Also our Ukulele group was chosen to perform an original song

(also written with music by our talented Mrs Zeeman) in finals of the

Ukulele festival. The song ‘Colours of Aoteoroa’ was sung

and companied on ukulele was voted in at second place.

First place went to a professional trio. Our next venture is

making a music CD performed by all our students

with special tracks by individual groups.

Our Cultural Group which includes both Pacifica and Kapa Haka dance

performed at Howick College in Term 3 and performed again in the

Summer Festival.  Both performances received rave reviews.

While our Dance troupe performed at the Dance Festival at Elim

College in Term 3.

Many of our students, who enjoy making music, extend their

musical knowledge by taking part in extra-curricular lessons

offered at lunchtime or after school. We thank Mrs Zeeman

for offering lessons in Guitar, Flute, Keyboard, Ukulele and

Recorder while Mrs Leafberg offers keyboard lessons.
